Welcome to A Dailey Wanderlust: My First Attempt at Blogging

Welcome to my attempt at blogging! But honestly, I have no idea how to blog...
The idea behind this is documenting my adventures, but in a more relaxed way (I’m hopping to do something weekly). Crap I’m already failing at this blogging thing, I haven’t even introduced myself! My name is Caitie Dailey, and yes the title of my blog is playing up my last name, I was trying to be punny (credit for the title actually goes to my best friend Julia, she’s the creative genius). Here’s a little background on yours truly, just incase you have no idea who I am. Wow that makes me sound like I think I’m important, spoiler* I’m just a college student.
Fun Facts about Caitie:
  1. I’m a student at Washington College (I’m a junior), and an International Studies major, or as my friends like to say, a volunteer major.
  2. I’m 20 years old- soon to be 21 (OHHHHH YEAH!)
  3. Purple is my favorite color
  4. I LOVE ADVENTURE AND TRAVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Sarcasm is my second language
  6. According to a Maasai warrior I met in Tanzania, my hand in marriage is worth 30 cows (another spoiler* I declined his proposal, but I’ll consider higher offers...)
  7. I have the most wonderful and supportive family and friends ever
  8. I’m probably the worst editor in the world. These posts WILL be full of mistakes. You have been warned.
  9. When I grow up I want to work for nonprofits (obviously I’m choosing a career that will make me a lot of money because clearly money = happiness)
  10. I love volunteering and working with kids (refer to #1)
  11. Sarcasm people, lots and lots of sarcasm. Oh and I can be a bit sassy as well
  12. I have no idea what I’m doing so bear with me

For the past two years people have been telling me to blog about my experiences, so I guess I’ve finally given in to peer pressure. Honestly its a bit strange attempting to blog, and I’m not liking that I’ve referred to myself like a billion times (did I mention that I tend to exaggerate?) but thats what this type of blogging seems to be all about- travel blogging I mean- an open email to the world about the world through your eyes. I’m not an exceptional writer, and frankly I’m not very good at telling stories, I tend to get sidetracked or forget, so my apologies if you get bored or confused from reading this blog. You should know that I don’t plan on holding back in my posts- and I will try to make each post as interesting and funny as possible. By not holding back I mean I will probably swear a bit (sorry mom), my reason being is that I want every post to be as close to what I would actually say and think. This is my blog, and these are my thoughts so I’m going to be as open as I can be and as real as I can be. With that being said I know that my style of blogging isn’t for everyone, but please keep in mind that this is a blog about MY experiences and choices, you may not agree with them but I would urge you to keep an open mind. In my opinion, everyone should learn from the experiences, successes, and failures of others, especially when it comes to travel.
Now for the serious side of things: I have been fortunate enough to see a vast array of cultures from corners of the world not often looked into as well as major hubs of influence, and with every adventure I am pleasantly surprised by how I am able to connect with people not only on superficial or surface levels but also on a basic human level. Regardless of cultural, linguistic, religious, social, and/or educational background there is always a way to bond on the human level and create an understanding and respect between individuals and on a greater scale communities, regions, nations, etc. That may or may not make sense, but to me it has always been important to fully understand a place by getting to know the people who live there. What I hope to do with this blog is create and understanding across countries, cultures, time, and most importantly individuals. Okay this is all getting far too deep for my introductory blog post so I hope you get the point.
Anyway.... My current adventures have lead me to one of the most historically interesting countries in the world (in my opinion). My new home away from home is Rhodes University in SOUTH AFRICA!!!

So stay tuned friends, there is so much to come
