Harry Potter and Honey Badgers: Because I Can

Harry Potter-
I do this thing when I travel, I make a list of the types of things I want to/need to purchase or do in a country and I kinda create a scavenger hunt for myself and try to check everything off the list before I leave. Last spring I went to Japan with my college and I decided to start collecting Harry Potter books from ever country I go to (something much easier said than done). Why Harry Potter? Because its my childhood, my favorite thing to watch with my best friend, and the only book I read when I’m missing home. I loved growing up with the books and movies, and I’m a proud owner of all of them. Since my first purchase of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in Japan (Yes that means its in Japanese, and yes I can read a little of it), I’ve been to Tanzania, Honduras (twice) and have spent a few layovers in Ethiopia, London, and Rome but have no Harry Potters to show for it. You’d think that every bookstore would/should have the most popular children's books ever, but no. It’s a bit discouraging at first, but I’ve found that its a great conversation starter with the people I meet in bookstores around the world as well as a personal challenge to find them. So yesterday after my first day of class, Rachel and I ventured into town to buy some school supplies and by the second bookstore I had my South African Harry Potter :) All of the books were beautiful, but Rachel and I both agreed that the Order of the Phoenix had the best cover. It may not seem like a big deal to those of you reading, but to me its a little connection to home and a small comfort.
(*** SideNote: I don’t usually count countries I have a layover in, but in the case of the Harry Potter's I allow it.***)

Honey Badger Don’t Care!-
Ok so this is short and sweet (literally). As you may, or may not know, South African wine is known for being some of the best wine in the world and its become a huge competitor in the wine market. The other day at the grocery store we were looking through the wine selection and Rachel spotted a wine called Honey Badger. Of course we had to buy it because as everyones knows, Honey Badger don’t care. I’m no wine connoisseur, but it was actually quiet good. Oh did I forget to mention the drinking age in South African is 18?

Cheers,
A very content American
