Here we go again

It’s a bit crazy that my time home is already up. I’ve been home about 2 months now and I couldn’t have asked for a better break. I was lucky enough to visit my family at Washington College a few times as well as see my friends and family at home. From the meeting my parents and three of my closest friends in the airport, to being in the wedding of the amazing Dom and Daniel Leon Davis, and celebrating the 21st birthday of my best friend Julia: my time home was much needed and very worth it. It wasn’t all smiles and hugs though, there was a lot of culture shock and adjustment. The first month back was overwhelming- walking into a convenience store and having to choose a single drink from a wall of choices was pretty terrifying- but now its time for me to go on another adventure, and this time I’m headed to Italy.

Honestly there is no real reason for me to be taking this trip: it doesn't help me fulfill anything in my major, I don’t speak Italian, and I’ve actually never been to Europe- which is exactly why I’m doing it. I’m leaping out of my comfort zone and moving to Milan, the fashion capital of the world. This is not only my first time going to Europe, but also my first time living in a city. Needless to say I’m a bit nervous but I’ll be taking language courses and a handful of other classes while I’m there. The two brave souls joining me on this trip are Sean and Meredith- names I’m sure will be mentioned quite a few times in the next 4 months- The three of us fly out tomorrow evening and get to spend our first few days in Milan exploring.

It will definitely be a change moving to a city and learning (or attempting to learn) a new language, but I think I’m up for it. Who can say no to the opportunity of living in one of the most beautiful and culturally rich places in the world? Lets just hope that things run a little smoother this semester

Ciao,
A jet-setting American
